Silver Slipper Restaurant: The Heartbeat of Roxbury's Breakfast Scene

It was over fifty years ago. I was a young boy and the Silver Slipper was run by a large, very lovely woman named Mary (Long gone, now.) I don't know who runs it now but I always went in for the hot dogs. They had the best hot dogs ever. It was another era.

I moved out of Boston 20 years ago, however, one thing a true Bostonian from Roxbury can never forget is The Silver Slipper. A staple in the Dudley area when it comes to breakfast, The Silver Slipper is one of the few restaurants who still make everything homemade. As I was visiting my father, he advised he was ordering from The Silver Slipper and I had to get my order in. As I had a full day ahead of me, I didn’t want anything too heavy. I opted for a protein based meal and ordered the Spicy Beef Sausage with Wheat Toast. Calling the order in was simple and straightforward. The young lady who answered was pleasant and efficient. She took our order, repeated it back to us and closed out with the time expectation and a see you soon. Upon arriving, the restaurant wasn’t crowded so it was easy in and easy out. The order was accurate and ready as advised. We confirmed everything was present, grabbed a few condiments, paid, and was out the door. As you will see by the pictures, this is REAL SAUSAGE. All these years later and The Silver Slipper is still holding it down. The sausage was fresh and super spicy just like I like it. The burn on the sausage was perfect and made the bites even more flavorful and textured. The toast was perfectly toasted and non-buttered which was perfect as the sausage had its own grease. As soon as the sausage hit the bread, it nestled into the toasty goodness and they became exactly what I needed to get the day started. Shout out to The Silver Slipper for their tenure and quality of food. We the People of the Boston Foodie World Appreciate You!!

One of my top breakfast choices in Boston. This is probably the best deal in the city of Boston for Breakfast. The plates are so well seasoned and plenty of food. I love the patty sausage and eggs cheese plate with grits. In addition, I love their corned beef hash. It is cash only but definitely worth it! This is a sleeper in Boston. If you don't go here, you are definitely missing out on a great breakfast and deal. Staff has been there forever and are very nice.

Wonderful old style restaurant. Great food and so much nostalgia. The only thing missing was the old overhead orange line that used to go through Dudley Square!

It was my 1st time there in I loved the experience. Very friendly staff and the food was good. I will be going back multiple times.../

I’ve been eating here since I was a kid. I order the same thing every time. Pancakes, thin with extra butter with scrambled eggs and cheese… or I get it with bacon… or maybe add grits. I also very their signature ice tea, which this is a combo for me. When I get the food, it’s traditional for me to get their ice tea too… My food was hot when I picked it up for take out. I literally go here just for the pancakes, nice and thin with extra butter.

GRITS Report: Yes! Wow. Finally, I found a diner that sells grits....located in the Heart & Soul of Roxbury by Nubian station. Great folks. Friendly, welcoming staff. Great atmosphere. A fav with the locals and I will most def come back to dine here. Small, little "Family-run" diner. This place has been a mainstay in the community. I had a wonderful breakfast: 3 eggs, steak, toast, and (cheese) grits.
